WOW!!!! Our brother is BACK!!! Where do we start… When Marci and I arrived today, Eric was so happy to see us, it was such a wonderful feeling, finally this day arrived, thank you God and Anna-Carin!! He teared up, thanked us for coming, I miss you, I’m sorry, I love you, then started crying and talking about missing Pete. “Peter, he’s not here…, I’m sorry…, we were tight… my brother…” we told him it’s OK, Pete and Dad are here, they’re in heaven but with us and they are angels taking care of you, watching over all of us. We’re a team, we’re in this with you, no matter what. The past is the past, let it go, this all about the future. He agreed. He started joking with us, big funny Eric grin and laughing about all sorts of things… it was wonderful to laugh with Eric again. We held hands, hugged, kissed and felt the strongest as a family as we’ve ever felt, amazing. We told him it’s all going to be OK.
Marci asked him to eat something. He said “only if you want me to”. Then she handed him the cup and spoon, he took both and did very well feeding himself. Unfortunately whatever it was he ate was NASTY. The look on his face said it all, we felt so sorry for him. Marci tasted it and her face did the same thing! Poor kid. I then tasted another cup, it was chocolate banana, it was better and he fed himself very well. Drank liquids and ate a little. Marci reminded Eric that it was good practice. He then said “they tell me my brain needs to learn how to eat and swallow.” – WOW, so cool.
He was giving Marci car advice, loving our tatoo idea, we 3 will be getting matching tatoo’s together when he’s ready. Something special about us & Pete and liking the words: determination, strength, confidence, love, perseverance, telling us all about his tatoo’s with Pete, referring to mountain climbing, rolling his eyes while referring to Mom having eyes in the back of her head (we used to say that when we were kids, we howled!).
Dave (the rockin’ neighbor) stopped by today to spend time with Eric. While he was there, ACD called and talked with Eric. They had a good conversation, quite cute. While Dave was there, Eric was full of expression, especially about football. He lit up when Dave told him the Oregon Ducks would be on TV tomorrow, but frowned when told that the Huskies would not be on TV because they are not as good a team. (Eric is a Coug for those of you that don’t know… :>) Dave read from the journal regarding Eric’s flirting with the nurses, Eric started laughing. He was very playful. He stood up all on his own at a good pace, took a few steps, and then sat down, all by himself. Dave saw several facial expression of the “Eric” we all know.
There is so much more to tell, but we’ll sum it up by saying, “on behalf of myself, Marci and Dave, this was the best day yet and one we’ve been waiting for, for a very long time!!!! (124 days)…
